BRAZY B
It was commonly known that whatever you did on the Eastside someone would either know or find out. Word had a habit of spreading like wild fire, so it didn’t take long before Brazy B received knowledge about John’s new disposition as a Crip and a killer.
“Check!” he yelled as he and OG Red Flag sat contemplating their next move over a game of chess. They relaxed in Red Flag’s guest room. He had a mansion in Rancho Cucamonga, and with a fire burning in the fire place and a fifth of Bacard on deck, the atmosphere was warm and drowsy. Since it was Scottie that had started the war, causing them to lose from all angles, they needed to strategize. With sixteen causalities on their side, money was being lost. Their drug trades were dropping, and at the moment funerals and strategizing had become top priorities.
Nevertheless, after knocking down two main figures with one stone within the Crip community, Brazy figured Killa and the Crips would stop. But Brazy was wrong because they hit with a vengeance ten times harder. Red Flag studied the board after being checked. He said, “Knight takes Queen out of check.”
“Damn, I didn’t see that,” Brazy hissed.
“Brazy, I told you that this game is about strategy,” answered Red Flag. “This is a game of life. When you strategize you got to play both sides of the board. You got to worry about what the next move might bring. A smart player stays three to five steps ahead to win the game.”
Brazy half listened while he played the game; everything Red Flag said went in one ear and out the other. Surveying the board he said, “Bishop takes Knight! Check with my Rook! I just thought I’d let you know I always stay ahead of the game. After all, you are playin’ against Brazy-Muthafucka- B!”
Red Flag chuckled. He was a veteran at strategy. He knew Brazy B was a stubborn young dude, and the only way to set him straight was to show him. Smiling, he took much pleasure in saying, “Wrong! There are two reasons why I know that you’re not on your game. First, Queen takes Rook checkmate! Second, just how you play this game is the same way you play your life. You think two steps ahead not three or five.”
Brazy snapped. He knew exactly what Red Flag was referring too. His eyes blazed, “How in the hell can you say that, when I’m the one who’s holdin’ down the hood. Yo’ old ass only come to the hood to collect money. May I inform you that this is not the seventies or the eighties, this is nineteen ninety four. War is war! We lose some! We win some! As long as we get up and keep fightin’, we straight.”
Red Flag shook his head in disbelief. Brazy seemed crazy to him. He had tunnel vision and Red Flag knew that he needed guidance, or their organization would have been wrecked. Red
